Install and update KEs safely

KEs runs as an unpacked Chrome extension. Keep it in one permanent folder so every update preserves the same installation and settings.

First installation

Choose the permanent folder once. Do not install from Downloads or another temporary extraction folder.

  1. Download the ZIP and create a permanent folder named KEs in a location you will keep.
  2. Extract the ZIP contents into that KEs folder. manifest.json must be directly inside the folder.
  3. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome and enable Developer mode.
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the permanent KEs folder.
  5. Open KEs Settings and add your Longtail Finder API key.

Update existing installation

Replace the files inside your existing KEs folder. Do not load a newly extracted version folder as another unpacked extension.

  1. Download the latest ZIP and locate the permanent KEs folder used by Chrome.
  2. Delete the old files inside the KEs folder, but keep the KEs folder itself.
  3. Extract the new ZIP contents into the same KEs folder.
  4. Open chrome://extensions, find KEs, and click Reload. Your API key and settings remain in Chrome storage.

Permanent Extension ID

Starting with version 0.1.4, every official KEs package uses the same cryptographic identity. Chrome will keep recognizing it as the same extension when the files are replaced in the permanent folder.
